Q:how long does it take to charge the battery?

Answer This Question

A:  I no longer use and sold the Black & Decker mower. I bought an EGO 20" lithium Ion mower 2 years ago. The Black & Decker takes many hours to charge. If your yard is large you may need two batteries. The current B&D battery is a 36V 12A battery. My original battery was a 36V 10A battery. I had two batteries so I could finish the yard when the grass was high or wet from rain.

A:  I can cut a 60x40 lawn and still have about half a charge left but usually it take overnight to do a full charge..it is a Nicad battery so it is best to always keep it plugged in when idle

    Q:Battery Life? 36 Volt 3 batteries

    Answer This Question

A:  I've only had this mower for a few months however, I know most of the previous owners recommended keeping the batteries on charging full time when not in use to keep them at full capacity. I get my 60 x 40 lawn cut with about a 1/3 charge remaining, then just plug it back into the outlet to keep it ready for the next job. Also check the blade and replace it if it's dull. That will affect the cutting and drain on the battery

A:  TravisHDAtl or anyone know what the cost may be at Home Depot to look at or fix this mower, because I can get a new one for $300.00?

      by|May 3, 2023

A:  Hi Mike, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. It seems that the battery is okay, so we must assume that the problem is in the starting sequence. Page 9 of the operator's manual has specific instructions: The safety key needs to be fully inserted: "Check to make sure safety key has been installed and is fully seated and that button on switch housing is being completely depressed." "ON-OFF SWITCH (BAIL HANDLE) - FIGURE J Your mower is equipped with a special on-off switch system. To operate the system, first push button J-1 on side of switch housing, then pull the bail handle (switch lever) J-2 to the handlebar J-3.To turn the mower off, just release the bail handle." According to the video on the site, the order is consistent; press the button on the side and then pull the bail handle to start the motor. It's hard for me to know for sure about the order in which you proceed to start, but I seems to be necessary to adhere to this specific order. Copy and paste this address for the full manual: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/c5/c51c5b64-68e3-4a78-a100-70a18553aba1.pdf If all else fails, consult a Black & Decker Service Center in your area (1-800-544-6986) or bring it to The Home Depot for repair. Thank you for asking, -Travis

A:  Had the same problem with my B&D. Depending on the age of the mower, it may be the brushes that conduct the electricity to the engine. The part is available at B&D about $10. I knew what the problem was but I am not great at working on equipment. Local repair shop stop supporting B&D.

A:  This answer is for both Mike and Bill. Make sure you have the orange key inserted in the right handle. It won't operate without it.(safety feature) Once the key is inserted press orange button in and hold it on the right side of the top handle. With the button pressed in still, pull back on the secondary lever on the handle just like a regular lawnmower. Mine starts everytime with just the press of the button. If that doesn't work then The battery probably wasn't fully charged or the connecting pins between the two weren't properly aligned( unlikely). If not that I don't knbow.

A:  I've had my electric mower about 2 years, would the brushes go bad that fast and need to be replaced?

A:  Also, you can download the manual and print it out or save a copy on your computer. The download is just above your question. :) I like to keep PDF copies of all my appliances/tools/etc on my computer for easy reference.

A:  Depending on the age my B&D was 7 years old. The problem for me was that the brushes that pass the electric to the engine wore out. The part was out of stock. Call the only local B&D repair shop. they said that they could repair it. I did not have time to take it in and when I got there they stopped working on B&D equipment. Since I am not that handy with this type of repair I had to buy a new B&D mower.

A:  I bought this mower last season, this year when I pulled it out from the shed I had the same problem. Until I remembered, there is a button on the outside right of the handle, an orange button. Press that before you start the mower, it engages the blade. Hope this helps.

A:  I am buying a B&D to replace an old Homelite. Regardless, my Homelite went the same way - full charge, no motion. I tore the thing apart, as I know just enough to be dangerous. Long story short, when power was being supplied to the motor, the motor would not turn (it did turn freely by hand). I checked the brushes (they checked okay), checked the circuits, and checked the motor itself by bypassing everything between it and the batteries. I checked to verify that the motor was receiving 24ish volts, it was. Turned out the motor had just burnt out after about sever or eight years. I thought about trying to track down a replacement motor but I don't think it will be worth the effort after the cost associated - that, plus the charger is going and I would have to wire something else up to charge the batteries directly... so yeah... about to buy the B&D. Different mower, but same problem, with similar guts. Thought it might help.

A:  I ordered a 2nd battery online online thru Home Depot. The 2nd Battery is even better than the original because it has a 3 level power indicator on it that can be checked by the push of a button. I also got an extra blade at the same time.
