          A:  Hi carfino, A simple gantry "A Frame" can be made with a 2" x 6" cross beam on four (4) 2" x 4" legs that will easily support the hoist and band saw weight. The "A Frame" is basically a sawhorse that is high enough to suit the lift you want to do. Reinforce well the "sawhorse A Frame" structure so that it will not twist or bend under pressure. We made a Gantry for the BLACK BULL 1-Ton 8 ft. Hand Chain Hoist to lift a 650 lb. wood boat hull we needed to flip right side up. The boat measures 20' LOA x 8' Beam x 4' Height.and the lift and flip were successful.

          A:  Hi Nospaces, Yes the BLACK BULL 1-Ton 8 ft. Hand Chain Hoist is good for that purpose as we too use it for our mower lift now that the original purpose of lifting a 650 pound boat hull was done. First, make a sawhorse A Frame high enough to fit the hoist and the lift height you need for the mower. Make the "sawhorse" sturdy to insure it will not rack under pressure. Or, if you have an exposed ceiling joist in the garage, use that to mount your hoist. BE CAREFUL - INSURE THAT YOUR JOIST CAN TAKE THE WEIGHT! [We tested our garage joists and they work well for this purpose.]
