A:  Hi maggie, In general, we advise people to always clean your toilet seat with soapy warm water. Do *not* use harsh and/or abrasive chemicals, especially bleaches commonly used to clean the toilet bowl. Such harsh chemicals will strip away paint on painted molded wood seats. This will cause dulling and discoloration and staining. In some extreme cases, I've seen the paint removed to the molded wood core. On plastic seats, the plastic is pure color. However, harsh chemicals will dull the finish and abrasive chemicals and sponges will scratch the seat. This particular seat, model 200SLOWT (which has a wide range of colors!) has the Easy Clean & Change feature. This feature allows you to "unlock" the seat from the bowl by twisting the hinge caps. Once unlocked, you can lift the seat off the bolt heads so you can thoroughly clean the bowl. I hope that helps! Bemis Manufacturing Company
