Q:Would this go on a concrete countertop with a sprayer befor the sealer? How does it differ from acid stain?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi J0b, Thanks for your questions! I'm unable to compare our Concrete Dye to an acid stain, since we don't make an acid stain. Our Dye is a water-based, acid-free finish that provides a marble or glazed stone look. It's also available in 36 colors that you can create custom color combinations with. Unfortunately we currently don't make a product that we can recommend for countertops. Indirect or direct contact with food require that a coating be approved by the FDA for such use. Behr does not make coatings formulated to meet these requirements. Additionally, water exposure, food stains, cleaning, hot pans, etc. will lead to reduced durability of the paint and an unsatisfactory surface. Although the bit about food might not apply to other types of countertops (bathrooms, work benches, etc.), our coatings aren't designed to withstand the heavy wear of such surfaces. You might check with Home Depot for another brand's coating that might be suited to your project needs. Best wishes! - Sara

A:  Hi Ulfson, Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium Concrete Dye. You will need to clean your surface to ensure it is free of dirt, debris and stains. Next etch the surface with a muriatic acid to achieve a porous surface with a medium 150 grit sandpaper profile. Rinse and clean the surface thoroughly and allow to dry. Check the surface to ensure all dirt and residue has been removed. Once the surface is clean of all residue and has a medium 150 grit profile texture, it is ready to application.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hi Ulfson, Thanks for your interest in our Behr Premium Concrete Dye. If applied according to product directions, it should provide a long lasting decorative and protective finish. However keep in mind any surface exposed to weather, sunlight and foot traffic may fade over time. Good luck with your project!
