Q:I recently had my brick steps replaced and the outcome was that the brick they used doesn’t match the foundation brick color. It’s a lighter color. Can these be stained to match? If so what other prep would I need?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Sandra, thank you for your question. The Solid Color Concrete Stain can be custom color-matched to a sample of the foundation brick color. Before applying, ensure the surface is cleaned, etched, dry, and primed using a product such as our Concrete Bonding Primer No. 880, for best results. Have a great day! - Randy

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Lori, thank you for your question. After allowing the mortar to cure, you can prime the surface before staining. Assuming this is a floor, we recommend using our Concrete Bonding Primer No. 880 before staining. You can use a 1/4-3/8” nap roller cover, pad applicator, or nylon/polyester brush. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Q:I used Behr Concrete paint 3 years ago and I would like to use the Behr Solid Concrete stain. I have a large patio and I am trying to prevent stripping it to add the solid stain. Can I clean with degreaser and then prime to add solid stain?

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi Trichard981, thank you for your question. The Solid Concrete Stain can be used over a previously painted surface in good condition. You do not need to use a primer, but the surface should be sound, clean, and dry before applying. Also, if the previous finish is glossy, scuff sand the surface to promote adhesion. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Q:Last fall I etched, primed, & applied two coats of this stain to my concrete patio. Over winter, small black worms came onto my patio and died. Their bodies absorbed into the stained concrete and cannot be fully removed. Recoat + sealer? Plz advise.

              Answer This Question

A:  Hi hankstar, thanks for your question. You do not need to prime your previously stained patio surface, provided there is no peeling/bubbling or bare concrete showing. Just fill any hairline cracks and ensure the surface is clean before applying our Solid Color Concrete Stain. Good luck with your project! -Christina

Q:I want to re-coat a wall with a cap top again with the Behr solid stain after several years. There are two types of primers you often recommend depending on it being horizontal or vertical. This has both. Should I use conc./masonry primer or BEHR #436

                Answer This Question

A:  Hi Anthony, thank you for your question. The Solid Color Concrete Stain can be applied to vertical masonry surfaces once the surface has been primed using the Multi-Surface Primer and Sealer No. 436, as the Concrete Bonding Primer isn't recommended on vertical surfaces. Have a great day! - Randy

A:  Hi AsphaltA, thank you for your question. As it turns out, the Solid Color Concrete Stain isn't recommended for asphalt floors since it's too soft and contains slurry that may cause adhesion problems. Have a great day! - Randy
