Q:My opening is 23 1/2 in x72H Should I opt to the Aston 24in x72 or the 23inx72?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Eli - thank you for your interest in Aston and the CASCADIA Completely Frameless Shower Door Collection. If your finished opening is 23.5" wide, then you would want to consider the 23 in x 72 in model, which fits alcoves 22.75" to 23.25" wide after hinge adjustability. That would leave a .25" gap, which could be resolved by a contractor by acquiring a third party leak seal vertical strip with a wider sweep (that fits 10mm glass). Professional installation is highly recommended, if not required, with at least two adults taking part in the process. This is not a 'DIY' project for the vast majority of homeowners. Thank you!

Q:Hi. My shower opening is 25 3/8 x 75. Do you have a door that will fit? I prefer a bi-fold but will take what is available. Thanks

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi Zita - thank you so much for your interest in Aston. If your finished, tile-to-tile opening is 25-3/8 in. wide, this CASCADIA Frameless Shower Door model only adjusts to fit alcoves 24.75 in to 25.25 in. - leaving a very small 1/8 in. space even after adjustability. An alternative solution is to buy this model, adjust its hinge hardware to 25.25 in. wide, and obtain a wider vertical edge seal strip (that fits 10mm glass) that might provide that extra "fill" for the 1/8 in. space. Since professional installation is highly recommended, if not required - consulting your trusted installer might be able to put a solution in place that meets your specific bathroom's layout. Thank you!

Q:The hinge mounting plates I received have bolt heads protruding from the center of the plate (maybe 1/32" beyond the plate). Will this not be a hot spot when mounting the door on tile? I do not want to damage the tile that I put so much love, time and energy into installing. Do I need to get some rubber gaskets made for the hinge plates to protect the tile from damage when mounting the hinge plates? I emailed Aston about this but received very inadequate responses. They told me to simply screw the bolts in (not possible - they are completely seated and seized. I can neither screw in nor screw out these bolts). When I responded stating this and asked for guidance I received no response. A bit frustrating as this is the only thing keeping me from finishing this shower. I don't want to return it, but really don't want to damage my tile by installing defective or poorly manufactured hinges. Quality control seems an issue. As does customer support.

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for choosing Aston and the CASCADIA Completely Frameless Shower Door for your remodel. We are sorry to hear of these specific issues you are experiencing with your bathroom alcove. Our hardware is of the highest quality, and is certified by multiple steel and composite organizations. Its very difficult to diagnose your issue here, as no two alcoves are alike. We can say with confidence, that the vast majority of hinge hardware installations are fastened directly to the tile , as long as its not glass tile. You also must have at least 3" studs behind your finished walls. At this point we highly recommend you consult a licensed contractor, as we typically require professional licensed installation with all frameless models. They should be able to address your bathroom wall's composite easily. This is not a 'DIY' project by any means. Thank you!

A:  Hi Dave - thank you for choosing Aston for your remodel. This is an rare occurrence. On occasion, contractors and homeowners throw away the strips with the packaging by accident. If they are not in your packaging's trash, please email our product support team at support@astonglobalinc.com with your order number / model number / and request for strips in the subject line. Be sure to include as much information in the body of the email as you can to expedite the process. Thank you!

Q:I need to install blocking in the wall to support the hinges. What are the measurements from top to bottom of the hinges. Don't need exact a measurements since I am using 2x8 blocking. The installation PDF does not give these measurements.

                    Answer This Question

A:  HI Mike - thank you for your interest in Aston and the CASCADIA Completely Frameless Shower Door Collection. The center of the top hinge is approximately 62.5" high from your threshold, and 10" from the top of the glass panel. The same ratio for the bottom hinge. You should have at least 3" wall studs for this. We typically do not recommend self-install with our models, and you need at least two (2) adults minimum for this process. Thank you!
