Q:What's the difference between Ice Polishing Pad and Wet Diamond pad both 4" 50 Grit?
by|Jan 12, 2018

Answer This Question
A: Ice polishing pads usually have a white resin backing and are excellent for quartz stone, but work fine on granite, concrete and other stones. Both are 50 grit. You may notice (I have) color coming off the resin pads of others (it just washing away if you are using water with your polisher) but its distracting. I have both and have not noticed any difference in cutting ability.

A: Well it will remove whatever it touches. If you are careful and only grind what you want to remove it should work fine. Touch anything else and it will scratch it.

Q:What tools can this be used with? I currently have a power drill and an orbital sander. Can I use this with one of the tools that I have? Do I need to purchase a new tool? If so, what would be the best type of tool to use it with? I have about 1500 square feet of cement floor that I need to grind.

Answer This Question
A: I had the same predicament. the drill won't work properly with these discs, because the center mounting bolt and washer protrude up above the pad, it would also be very awkward to grind with. The orbital sander may work depending on how your pads attach to the mounting plate. I ended up purchasing a offset polisher and using a velcro tape to attach the disc. I cut double sided carpet tape and attached to the discs and attached the velcro to this. It worked really well, nothing protruded above the pads. To get the best life out of these pads you have to use them wet. I think your also going to need more then one pad for that much concrete. I hope this answer helps, good luck with your project.
