Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your inquiry. Storm and screen doors are not part of a Federal tax credit for certain energy-efficient improvements to existing homes. Storm and screen doors are not included in EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Windows Program as there is not a procedure or standard to rate storm doors at this time and not eligible for any energy efficiency tax credits for windows or doors. Please keep in mind that adding a storm door may help increase the entryway insulating capabilities and provide an added barrier to the elements. -Marki

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your inquiry. It is recommended to vent the insect screen. Slide it up and down several times to break in the weatherstrip between the insect screen track retainers. This will also prevent the ventilating window from sliding up after being pulled down. However, if the insect screen does not retract or slide up and down, it is an indication that there is no tension in the retractable insect screen. We recommend replacing your retractable insect screen. You can contact Andersen Storm Door Solution Center at 855-337-8822 if you need assistance with the replacement screen. - Arnie

Q:Wind caught my door when I was exiting with my hands full. Blew it wide open, tore the closer screws out of the door frame. Shouldn't there be a chain or something to prevent that?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your question. We apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. Please be advised that we do not recommend installing wind chains on our storm doors. Our experience, which is backed up by tests conducted by our engineering department, is that a wind chain does not significantly increase the ability of the door to resist wind damage. In fact, our tests indicate that, under certain conditions, the presence of a wind chain may actually increase the likelihood of damage to the door and door jamb. Because of this, we strongly discourage the installation of wind chains on our doors and do not offer one. Any damages from the door would be excluded from coverage under the terms of the door's warranty. - Laine
