A:  I didn't know what a high velocity filter was so I looked it up. High velocity filters as it applies to Trane/American Standard filters are the black plastic filters that come with the furnace. They are designed to have very little resistance and can fit in the bottom of the furnace. Based on this definition I do not believe these are, however there is no verbiage either way to say so, they are white cardboard. Sorry that's all I can offer on this subject.

A:  I do know they are made to work with older HVAC systems and new ones.

A:  I'm not sure what you mean by high velocity, but I use these in all my for furnaces which are high efficiency. They do a great job and I change them every 3 months.

A:  Yes it matters. Every furnace has filters specially made in their size. Do a search for the exact size you need and see what's available. Also, you can google your furnace make and model to be sure you are looking for the correct size. You might have measured incorrectly. Any spaces left in your filter vent (even an inch) can result in poor operation and possibly damage your furnace. Good luck!

A:  I don't see any reason why you couldn't. Its just air flow.

                  A:  No, it does not matter. The filter will fit a 24 x 20 or a 20 x 24 holder.

A:  No, rotating the air filter will not make a difference as long as it fits properly after rotation. It should not bend or have to be forced into place and make certain that the air flow indicator (arrow icon printed on filter) is going in the direction of the incoming air flow to the system. A:  Should not matter.

A:  I am not sure if squeezing a 1/2 inch on each side to make it 24 inches would cause the top to buckle preventing a tight fit. My air return filter opening is 20 and1/2" by 25" for a required 20 " x 25" filter; but the filter is only 24 and 1/2 '" long. So I would expect it should squeeze into to the opening.

A:  Yes, you should be able to rotate your filter with no problem. As long as you have the edges supported and the lattice is facing the blower, you should have no problems.

A:  HVAC systems are expensive to replace and/or repair. I personally would buy filters that are the exact size the unit requires.
