      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes, this part (Halex part 27515, 27516, and 75111B) is simply another way to connect non metallic sheathed cable to a metal box. The straight piece gets disconnected from the main part of the fitting. Snap the fitting into the box and run the NM cable through the fitting and into the box. The piece you pulled apart then gets pushed into the side of the fitting. This piece actually secures the wire and holds it in place. It serves the same purpose as the metal clamp connectors for NM cable. Its just another option.

A:  Intended from outside, like any romex connector, though in a pinch they will work the other way around.

A:  The 27580 version I actually like better (even though it doesn't clamp as well). But these are discontinued.

A:  You can pull the clamp portion out with pliers. They can be released from the 1/2" knockout with a screwdriver or other tool.

A:  They can be removed from a knockout by using a screwdriver to push the tabs that lock them to the box in. Do so carefully, so as not to damage any of the conductors. As for removing them from romex, they need to be cut off, and thus are one-time use.

A:  That is exactly what they are for. They cover the same range as your standard Romex connector, maybe a bit more.
