A:  No. This particular item is a TRUE popup drain. You press once on the top of the center piece of the drain to set it. You press again to release it. You don't connect it to an actuator rod. It's best when used with an overflow sink in case you forget to deactivate it but, if it's for an adult's bathroom, they may not be an issue. Makes a clean installation requiring no adjustment of rods and attachments. Just remove the old drain and actuators and install this one into the drain outlet.

A:  It can probably be installed in a sink with an overflow, but without a connection to the overflow, water in the bowl that reaches the overflow in the sink will just run out on the floor. There are lots of Pop-UP Drains that do have an overflow connection.
