      • Works well, especially replacing a same-size regulator

My 30-year-old Wilkins Model 70 regulator was leaking a stream. Unlike the other 1" Wilkins valves at Home Depot, this one is the same length so it fit in without new piping, Also, the input copper pipe is a sweat fitting to the union; I was able to keep the existing union input and nut so I did not need to add a sweat-to-Male Pipe threaded fitting. I used silicone plumber's grease liberally so If I need to adjust something it is apt to come apart. For example, I needed to remove the adjustment bolt to screw the regulator onto the existing output pipe and coated the galvanized steel bolt before reinstalling it. I will note that the nut inside the housing is also galvanized (the bolt in my old valve worked but some threads were eroded), but the adjustment bolt locknut is stainless steel. Overall this regulator appears well made. I'll see how well the plastic (composite) outer housing lasts, but I hope essentially forever.
