We installed Velux kerb mounted skylights during a re-roof and decided to buy some blinds to see if we could cool the room a little more in the summer as well as protecting the furniture from the sun's UV rays. We installed a couple of these blinds and found that when closed, the room is about 5 degrees cooler and the air conditioning is cycling less as a result. They are also very easy to slide open and closed using the Velux telescoping blind hook. Firstly, I wouldn't recommend buying these blinds without the accompanying Velux accessory tray. The accessory tray is easy to assemble and install (I wrote a separate review about this) and includes the click-link pegs that the blind mounts to. Since there aren't many color choices, we went with the white version to match the plastic frame of the accessory tray. Once you have installed the accessory tray, installing the blind takes about 15 minutes. Firstly you install a couple of corner brackets which require one screw. The accessory tray came with a small drill bit and we used that to drill the pilot holes for the screws. With the corners in place, you then fit the blind which is a push fit until it clicks into the mounting pegs that are pre-fitted in the accessory tray frame. I actually had to hit this gently with my closed hand to get it to pop into place and stay there. With the blind mounted and the corners fitted, you then slide in a couple of aluminum tracks that the blind runs along. With the tracks fitted, you then drill 3 holes and screw the tracks to the accessory tray frame. I found that I had to press lightly on the aluminum track to make sure it was snug to the bottom corner of the accessory tray frame before drilling the screw holes to make sure both tracks were parallel with each other. With the tracks on, you unwind the two guide strings and clip them into place in each corner and that's it. When we were trying to decide which type of blind to get, we opted for the manual version as opposed to the solar powered version as we have a single story room where the skylight is about 10-12' from the floor and we figured there was less that could go wrong over time. Opening and closing the blinds is very effortless with the telescoping hook that Velux sells separately although my wife did manage to 'pop' the hook ring out of the aluminum blind frame on her first try. This was simple enough to fix where I was able to push the ring back into the grooves in the blind frame. All in all, for me to fit two accessory trays and two blinds was about 1 - 1/2 hours work and the end results were well worth the effort, both aesthetically and in reducing the radiated heat from the sun in the house through the skylights.

Pros Energy Efficient, Easy to Install, Well Made, Good Size & Fit, High Quality Cons would have been nice to have more color choices
