              Problem solved
I'm renovating a 100 + year old house. At some point in its long life someone removed the window pocket weights that allow the windows to stay open. Each window had two dowels, a long and a short, to hold the window open. They also removed the sash locks allowing anyone to open the ground floor windows from the outside. The windows are in good shape so I didn't want to replace them. I needed a cost effective solution. I installed these 2-1/2" barrel bolts at the left side bottom corner of the lower sash then drilled three small holes along the frame. One at the bottom to lock the window in the closed position, one half way up and one fully opened. A simple, inexpensive, solution that works like a charm.
