      Answer This Question

A:  The vertical sides of the frame seem to be 2x4s with a 2x6 along the bottom. The vertical boards are probably 1/4 inch thick and slide around in the frame. The self-closing tee-strap hinges I used are working fine, but the framing is so flimsy that the gate was out of square and sagging within a few days. Unless you invest the time/lumber/hardware to reinforce the gate, I'd be careful about using a lock or any latch that needs tight alignment with the post. I've posted a couple of pics with a carpenter's square that provides scale and shows the sagging after 2 days

A:  4x4 is just fine , If you like a BIG look use a 6x6

A:  I have three of these gates and used 4x4’s for all of them with great success.

            by|Apr 4, 2019

A:  I’ve purchased and installed 3 of these gates and they are light enough for 4x4 posts (assuming the post is seated in cement at the depth required for your area)

                Disappointed
I ordered one of these gates a few years ago and had really good results so I recently decided to order two more to use as a double gate on the opposite side of my property that matches the old gate. When the gates arrived, they appeared to be made of high quality cedar and the overall appearance indicated that they were well made. Unfortunately a few days after installing they began to sag quite a bit. So much so that it was noticeable to the average person. I decided to install some flat corner braces on all corners of each gate to reinforce them. That helped considerably, but was frustrating given the cost of the gates. So now the gates have been installed for 45 days and a noticeable split has occurred in the top section of one of the gates. I am growing increasingly concerned that these gates will not last very long. It is even more concerning to me that they may fail and allow my two large dogs to escape. Granted the dogs are well behaved and do not jump on the gate, but I do not have confidence. I very well may end up building my own gates and returning these. I find this irritating because I have already spent a fair amount of time staining and sealing these gates.

Started sagging in 2 days. Awful quality. The frame has no rigidity and was quickly out of square from the wight of the gate. The only structure for this 50 pound gate seems to be from a couple of lag bolts on each side. There's no diagonal cross brace and the wood panels slide loosely in the gate frame.I wish I had known this before spending thousands on the matching fence panels.

This fence is beautiful and was easy to put together. Looks way more expensive than its cost. The 6x6 panels had to be assembled, but it was easy and you would never know by looking at them. I have no negative comments. All pieces were in perfect condition when we opened the boxes. I have had this for 3 weeks and the cedar smell is really nice, especially in the fall. Everyone that comes by asks if it was very expensive. Its nice to buy a product and it exceeds your expectations.

Nice look but be prepared for sagging. The gate looks nice when installed and stained but it has begun to sag significantly after about 6 months. It is held together with long "timber lok" style screws and seem to loosen easily in the cedar and tightening will only strip them out. I will be buying a turnbuckle assembly shortly to correct it. Pic attached is the original no sag.

Nice product, no assembly required. Hinges that have integral self closing hinges work great due to light weight of the gate.

This was a HUGE waste of money! It is so flimsy and poorly made that it’s sags horribly once it’s hung. I’m still trying to figure a way to salvage the situation. Do yourself a favor and DON’T BUY THIS!!!

This gate construction is extremely poor. The gate after installation sags, there is a half inch gap between the middle boards on gate that are tongue and groove and should be together not creating a gap. I want a refund and for you to come pick this minimal example of a gate away.
