      • Good mower, but has a few cons

I am mowing a roughly 1/4 acre lot and am not using the catcher, so cannot comment on that. I'll start with the Cons. Once moving, the mower does not seem any more difficult to push that a standard unpropelled gas mower, but there is a little bit of extra effort required after any turn or stop to get the blades going again. The effort is magnified in thick grass. The mower does seem to leave a stray blade here and there uncut, not enough to bother me, but if you are looking for military precision it may be a concern, The blades only turn while the mower is moving forward so when going around trees and obstacles, or cutting in tight spaces that require any back and forth maneuvers of mower, it does not cut on the back stroke. This is not a big problem, but adds a few seconds here and there. The blades end about 3 inches inside of wheel track, so you'll have a little more trimmer work to do against house, fences and trees. Lastly if you have a lot of trees, you will need to pick up twigs and sticks before starting. It will roll over most without disturbing them, but anything much larger than 3/16" that does get picked up will jam the blades stopping mower in it's tracks. This just requires a couple of seconds to reach out with your foot (wear shoes) and spin the blade assembly back to clear. Any leaves dropped by your trees, may get sheared in half but won't be mulched or bagged like they would with power mower, so again possibly leaves a little extra cleanup work. Now to the Pros. I didn't realize how much exhaust heat my mower threw off, till I stopping walking through it ( and breathing it). No gas/oil to buy. It isn't silent, but makes much less noise so I'd don't feel bad about an early morning startup time. There is no dust kicked up so I don't need to hit the showers immediately after mowing. It's too early to tell personally, but the shearing cutting action is supposed to be healthier for the grass. Less maintenance of mower. I think my Cons list was longer than Pros list, but for me the Pros are more important and win out. This turns a noisy unpleasant chore into a nice little workout. I'm very happy overall with quality and performance and although I'll keep my gas mower around to mulch leaves in the fall, I'll be using my Scotts reel mower for the weekly mowing.
