Good paint AWFUL SPRAY HEAD!

One would think that Rust-oleum would take extra care in the spray head of a can of paint that would be used to touch up automotive finishes. I was SORELY disappointed in the quality of the spray head. The paint goes on smoothly with a nice an even spray pattern. Unfortunately at the beginning and end of each spray stroke globs and drips come out of the can onto the item one is painting completely RUINING the nice clean and smooth finish that one just applied. Even with very large paint can strokes going way over the end of the work, the gobs and paint drips cannot be avoided. Unfortunately, this is going to cause me hours of extra work and time to wait for a week, resend and repaint what would have been a simple job. I have noticed that on Rust-oleum's other paint cans they have gone to a different spray head design. I can't help but wonder if this is the reason? So in conclusion, if you want a quality smooth finish devoid of drips and gobs of paint on you work, I highly recommend using a different manufacturer of paint until Rust-oleum recognizes, takes responsibility and addresses this issue. P.S. In one picture the high gloss finish looks dry with over stray because I stopped the job in, half done in disgust, to take the picture.

I used this to paint my whole car (Civic Sedan). With the right preparation, this stuff worked great. It has a good spray pattern and quick recoat time. I primed (with respective products) the bare metal, rust, and bondo. I used just under 6 cans to do one solid coat on the whole exterior (didn't door the door jambs). I used Rust-oleum trim and bumper paint for the mirrors and profile on the side. After about a week, I gently wet sanded with 600 grit, gently washed with the foam cannon on my Hydroshot (shameless plug), and waxed. Rust-oluem for the win again!

I planned to repaint a model t Ford with a "rattle can" and Rustoleum automotive spray paint was the product of choice. This idea I found on the internet on sites that discussed repainting Model t Fords. I sprayed a few small parts, doors, fenders etc. and thought the finish was fine until I saw a finish on a colleague's car parts that was far superior. Rustoleum might work for touch up but I would not spray an entire car with it. One problem: you need to use a fresh can for each job, (fender, door, etc.) for when you reach a lower point in the can the finish is not the same. It is not as glossy. I shook rattled and rolled on this paint but decided not to do the whole care with it. A local body-paint dealer persuaded me to use a urethane enamel and that is what I have decided to do.

Make sure to spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. We recommend applying several light coats a few minutes apart, verses one heavy coat.

I was a little skeptical of the paint quality, because it's from a can, and that just seems odd to me. I have a 1999 Lexus GS300 and the front grill was matt black from the factory and was getting dull and chipping. Little specks of metal were showing through from rocks and debris over the years. I took it off and gave it a really good wash with dish soap to de-grease any wax or other stuff that was on it. I did NO sanding at all. Then, I did about 8 coats from all different angels, because some spots would get painted, while others weren't, lots of hard to reach places on a grill. If I was painting a flat piece of metal, like a door panel, I would probably only use 2-3 coats. Took about an hour, but it looks amazing! I also sprayed over the chrome border, and it got rid of it completely. So happy with the results, and I still have a little less than half the can of paint. The pictures speak for itself.
