1Question

Q:Will it remove paint on wood surface?

Answer This Question

A:  This tool was designed for scraping along a smooth flat surface such as concrete or black top. Utilizing it to scrape a wood surface has the potential to mar/damage the surface based upon the pressure applied by the user.

A:  I wouldn't use it to scrap paint. It will gouge the wood.

A:  Yes, this scraper can be used to remove paint from a wood surface.

A:  There are far better paint removal tools. This scraper has a very long handle, and the edge isn't that sharp. We repainted our front porch railings recently and used a power washer and an actual paint scraping tool. The Razor Back scraper is more likely to be used to break up ice on walkways or remove grass/weeds from sidewalk seams/cracks.

We used a tool similar to the Razor Back 7-inch forged scraper to clean ice from walkways and steps, and to remove grass from seams in our sidewalk. The old tool lasted decades. This particular Razor Back is heavier, and the longer handle is really excellent! Handle is smooth and feels solid. The forged scraper has a fairly rough appearance in the body, but the scraping edge has been ground smooth. We're pleased with how it removes grass/weeds from sidewalk areas, but we haven't had ice yet to test it on that. So far, it's surpassed the performance and ease of use from our old scaper tool.

Razor-Back 7 in. Forged Scraper from Ames Tools is perfect for what I need. I use the scraper to help remove grass or weeds that crop up in the stonework or pavement after treating with weed killer. The blade is a heavy grade steel, and the handle is a heavy wood. It works great in either hands, and is of good quality. There is heft to this tool. The tool is made of components of both the USA and China. This scraper is an excellent addition to any homeowners gardening tool collection. I highly recommend it. I rate this item 5*s out of 5. Thank you Ames Tools for allowing me to try your product. Thank you Home Depot Seeds for offering this item to me.

This is a very good razor back 7 inch forged scraper. We're remodeling our bathroom and we have ceramic tile on the floor and this is coming in handy it is getting under the tile and getting it up with a little effort. The long handle helps getting under the tile and making the job easier. The handle is a little rough but not enough to hurt you. This is a very good product and well worth the money and its very durable. There is alot of uses for these scrapers. I have to highly recommend this scraper it be around for a long time and be used alot.

LONG HANDLE; HORIZONTAL TOP of BLADE --- The Razor-Back 7" Forged Scraper works well for edging grass from flower beds. Since the top of the blade has a horizontal surface, you can place your feet on the top of the blade to cut through grass or whatever the encroaching material is. It may not cut through anything much thicker than grass with its blade sharpness and weight. For ice scraping and chipping, the D-handle scraper from Razor-Back may work better since it has a heavier, wider blade; ours works well for that task. Since that scraper has a sloping surface, it does not work as well for edging. The 7" scraper’s handle is 20" longer than the D-handle’s. I was disappointed that the blade of the 7" scraper is made in China of two parts with a poor weld joining the parts while the D-handle scraper’s blade is made of one piece in the USA. See photo. Both scrapers are backed by a lifetime warranty.

Razor-Back 7 in. Forged Scraper The handle has a spray finish on it that is very rough. I used 220 grit sand paper on the handle to get it smooth enough that i could move my hands up and down the handle without feeling like i would snag on burrs. The info says North American hardwood handle for strength and durability although I have a concern that the socket where the handle inserts into the head is to small and should be bigger to hold the handle better. You can see by the attached photo that the handle does not go very far into the head of the scraper. The scraper head has a very thick coat of paint on it and will take a lot of grinding to get an edge on it. The welds from the shank to the head are sloppy and a lot of paint on them to cover up a poor welding job. The head of the scraper is stamped CHINA. I do think this will get the job done although i do not expect the handle to last with the way it is attached. Please see attached photos.

As a scraper, this tool works pretty well. It can get under some icy patches and lift them off the surface, then be scraped away. However, it was listed as a chipper/scraper when I ordered it, and chipping is not its strong suit. It will chip thinner areas of ice, but does not work well if the patches are thicker. I don't think it would stand up to the rigors of heavy chipping, so have given it only 4 stars.
