When I bought these planters I wasn't very concerned about the aesthetics of them but I was pleasantly surprised how nice they look given how economically priced they are. The planter is smooth but has a soft look to it. Almost like rubber. It's not shiny and I find that appealing. They have an integrated tray to collect runoff. The tray snaps into the base of the planter securely and it takes a bit of force to remove it but I like how it has an integrated look because of the tight fit. I also found that you can drain most of the water by just tipping the planter slightly on it's end and pulling the tray down a bit without actually removing it. If the tray fills up water will overflow around it. You can't really see the water level in the tray but you can get some sense of it by bending the tab on the end a little bit. You'll want to empty the tray before it fills up because it can spill as your moving it to where you're dumping the water. The tray looks like it forms a tight seal with the planter but that's just for looks. It's not waterproof. When transporting the planter treat it like you're moving a 3/4" tray of water and not a 6" tall planter. The drainage holes at the bottom of the planter allow excess water to drip out without taking much potting mix along with it. I used an organic potting mix and didn't add anything to the bottom of the planter to prevent soil run off or aid drainage. The material has the slightest bit of flexibility to it. It doesn't bow or bend when filled with potting mix and water but if you lift it you can feel some movement. This flexibility helps prevent cracking. I've had a few of these for months now, some out in the sun and there have been no signs of deterioration. Only drawback is the label on the side. There were actually two of them and removing them took some time and adhesive remover.
