      • Airtight tongue and grooves!

I tested this bit out on a scrap of 1x pine stock I had lying around my garage, and I was really impressed with the results. Using my 2-1/4 HP Bosch router, I chucked up the 1/2" shank into the collet and cut the tongue side first. I did it in two passes, since I was working with the handheld router, rather than on a table. The bearing did a great job of keeping the router sliding smoothly on the final pass. The cutting was very smooth, and I didn't experience any burning or tearout at all! Next, I swapped the cutter configuration out for the groove portion. I noticed that the diagram in the included directions must be wrong, since it only shows one bearing installed above the cutter. However, there aren't enough shims and spacers to get to the threaded portion of the bit shaft without including the second bearing. Anyway, I ignored the directions and installed the second bearing, and everything cinched up fine afterwards. The groove portion was even easier to make, since there's only one cutter. I did find out afterwards though that I didn't get the bit seated at quite the right height in the collet, and my tongue was offset from my groove about 1/16"-1/32". Looks like it's time to make a template! Putting the two edges together, you can see the resulting joint is nearly airtight! If it wasn't for the grain differences, I think it would be nearly impossible to tell it was there after gluing and clamping.
