      • Works well, doesn't burn the edges, but can be very messy!

The slow speed of the abrasive wheels and need for water helps avoid burning of all steel edges, a real plus. The unit is very quiet and the provided guide allows sharpening of longer blades, like those from planers and jointers. But, you must soak the wheels in water prior to use and insure a constant flow of water from the provided reservoir, to prevent loading of the wheel. In addition, centripetal force causes some of that water to be ejected sideways, onto the floor or your clothing - and it isn't exactly "clean" at that point, having metal particles in it which will stain clothing. An impermeable shop apron could be well advised! Due to the slow operating speed, this unit is not as suited to major metal removal - as for badly damaged edges, but it works well for tools needing a good bevel established. You'll probably want to finish sharpening with a good waterstone manually, since changing of the abrasive wheels, assuming you have them, is a bit messy once the unit has been in use.
