Q:How forgiving is this product with existing wood floors that have imperfections in being 100% level?

A:  Hello and thank you for your interest in this product. Every laminate floor we manufacture as well as most of those in the industry requires that you must install your flooring over a clean and level subfloor. The subfloor must be level within 3/16 of an inch over a 10 ft span. A laminate floor can be installed over an existing wood floor, however you need to make sure that it's not a floating wood floor. In other words, your existing wood floor must have been nailed / glued down.

This flooring is very easy to install and looks great with a lightly scraped textured finish and a rich teak color. The floor is comfortable to walk on and has the appearance of much more expensive solid wood boards. We just remodeled our laundry room and decided to install this Kronotex Mossy Gold Teak flooring as it complements the rich color of the pine wood paneling which was already installed on the walls. After reading the instructions on the back of the carton, I visited the manufacturer’s website and viewed a few of their installation videos which ended up being a huge mistake. The videos on the Kronotex website advise installing their flooring from left to right and if you try this with this product, you will run into some big issues. Since we were installing in a ‘wet’ location, we used glue to secure the boards and I ended up scrapping about 4-5 boards by following the ‘left to right’ instructions in their how-to videos as the boards quickly fall out of alignment if they’re installed this way. After starting again and following the ‘right to left’ directions on the back of the carton, it all worked out properly and the floor went down pretty quickly. Once you get the hang of it, the boards go into place quickly and I cut the boards into 16”, 32” and full length pieces to avoid any adjacent seams. Before installing, we pulled up our old flooring tiles and leveled out the concrete pad. We then put down a polythene vapor barrier and finally laid some 0.075” under floor polyurethane underlayment to absorb more sound from the washer and dryer that sit on the floor. I also sorted out the different patterns of wood from the first three cartons before starting the project so that I could avoid any adjacent pattern repeats. There is a wide variety of different patterns in the boxes and this resulted in a pleasing array of different designs on the floor. While the flooring is 8mm thick, the base material below the teak laminate is quite fragile, being made of an MDF type material. Even if I wasn’t installing in a wet location and using flooring glue on the seams, I might be tempted to use glue anyway instead of relying on the click fit design to hold everything solidly in place. I found the boards easy to cut using my table saw. Just remember that if you are using the table saw, place the boards face down to minimize the ‘chipping’ on the finished edges and get a nice clean cut. For the other intricate cuts I used a jigsaw with a scroll saw blade. After installation, I reinstalled a whole house water filter/softener and the washer and dryer and despite spilling a fair amount of water on the floor in the process, the seams stayed tight and flat. The flooring comes with a 35 year warranty for residential use.

The Mullen Home Mossy Gold Teak laminate flooring is beautiful and my wife and I really like it. The wood grain finish and blend of gold and brown colors is amazing. I've done several laminate wood floor projects and this one goes together the easiest and locks securely into place. The finish is durable and the flooring is low maintenance. I'd definitely recommend it for a remodel or new installation.

This Kronotex Mullen laminate flooring is a great way to change the appearance of any floor at a reasonable price. The color of this flooring is called St. Claire Oak. It is a fairly dark brown-gray. Each board is over six inches wide. They are eight mm thick. They look like individual wood boards, not a printed look of three thin strips on one piece. Installation was fairly simple once you got a rhythm going. The boards clicked together. A miter saw cut the boards cleanly. After moving on to subsequent rows, and looking back, some of the boards would have a slight gap between them. After tapping them back together, it seemed like a good idea to glue and tape them. I ran the boards in the length of the room in a random pattern of sizes and color. I used the Mossy Gold Teak along with the St. Clair oak for an eclectic look. It really makes the room look great with the mixed flooring. This laminate flooring can be used over most surfaces. Can even be used on the wall. There is no attached underlayment, so one should be chosen for the particular situation. I chose a recycled felt with a vapor barrier for sound reduction. Radiant heat can be used underneath. There is a 35 year warranty.
