    Answer This Question

A:  I could not find a way to replace just the motor after one of mine failed in just 3 years. These units need to be cleaned (vacuumed and wiped with a damp cloth) thoroughly about every 6 months to operate properly.

This was my answer! Great performance !
After 3 years of dealing with moisture and humidity from showering, I installed this superior bathroom fan. I don't have the biggest bathroom, but with low ceilings with this house (90"), the humidity really was bad in the warmer months. I always had to keep the door open from the bathroom. Installation was a breeze. I positioned the fan in the middle of the bathroom so it could help with the commode as well. I can't believe how quiet that motor is. As for price, you get what you pay for. Under a hundred bucks fit my wallet perfectly. The ceiling vent is stylish. Thanks Home Depot !

bath exhaust too close to the sheathing.
the exhaust part was at the top of the fan and places it right next to the roof sheathing. hard to wrap the grip around the vent line. otherwise it was ok.

      NOT A REPLACEMENT FAN
Wish someone would have told me that this fan is NOT a replacement fan.

        Nice and quiet
I have installed this fan before. It is a very quiet fan and moves a good volume of air.

Good fan, but NEVER buy one.
For pure performance and value this fan is great -- five stars. I also have no issues with installation. The issue I have is that support for the HamptonBay bathroom exhaust fans is very poor. I had one of these units malfunction due to the motor failing. It was easy to remove the blower housing, but the only source of a replacement motor&housing is to purchase a new fan and swap the new fan's blower housing for the bad one. (I contacted HamptonBay support and they stated that they would never have parts for this fan.) For this reason alone, I would NEVER buy a another HamptonBay bathroom fan. Also, I do not know this for sure, but my interpretation of what I was told was that they do not carry parts for any of their bathroom exhaust fans. They are really nice fans, but until HamptonBay makes replacement motors and other critical parts available, stay away from them. I will probably stick with Nutone from now on as they seem to be the standard and parts seem to be readily available.

        Not performing as rated
I'm a contractor and did a quality installation of this fan less than a year ago. Straight run of steel duct less than 6' long. No crimps, one gentle 20* bend. Plenty of ceiling insulation (R-50) above a heated bathroom. My clients have been complaining about condensation from day one. I had my HVAC contractor test the airflow with a duct airflow meter. He measured 50 CFM - not even close to the 90 CFM stated. Service rep said the only recourse was to pull the whole unit and bring it in to SEE if I could get a replacement under warranty. Basically cut out the drywall and disconnect the wiring and duct work - at my expense - to maybe get a replacement that works better. And then install it all over again - at my expense. Very unhappy with Hampton Bay. Panasonic next time for sure

        Good Exhaust Fan
I give this 5 stars because it works well and is very quiet. I can't really compare against much besides the cheap fan installed by my builder. This fan was relatively easy to install and does a good job of exhausting the moist air from my shower area. It is also very quiet, as now it sometimes gets left on by accident.

        A great fan.
I really don't understand why so many had trouble. It is true that this is not a drop in replacement for those fans builders typically put into new homes, so it does take a little extra work to fit into the ceiling, change the pipe size and I also put a new roof vent in. The only thing I used from the original installation was the wire that powered the fan. My goal was to ventilate the 400 cu ft room in just a few minutes. At 90 cfm this unit does the job. I anticipated a lot of noise but this model was far quieter that the original propeller type I replaced. It does take a little extra work and some familiarity with home construction. I started in the bathroom, dropped the old fan and disconnected to old pipe. Went to the roof and removed the old vent, cut the plywood opening for my new rooftop unit. A 3 foot vent line was all I needed and I hung that assembly loosely in the opening. I went downstairs again and resized the drywall opening, set the new brace then attached the power and vent pipe. I purposely set the fan unit 1/4" recessed in the drywall. At this point I put the grill in with no trouble and back to the roof a second time to mount the vent and seal up the shingles. All told I spent about two hours doing the actual work. And after a year I am still happy and have no roof leaks.
