The negative reviews of this item don't make sense. This is a decent lamp that works fine and is exactly as described. In case there are multiple versions of this lamp out there, the model I purchased from my local store came in a white HDX box with orange and gray print. In the upper left corner, it says "SKU 596 000". The description is 10.5 in Heavy Duty Heat Lamp, with 8ft 18/2 SJT cable with heavy duty scratch resistant clamp. 300 watt max Type A bulb. To clarify / correct some of the negative reviews: First, this is a 300 WATT lamp with 10.5" reflector. This is NOT a 150 watt lamp with 8.5" reflector. The product description on the web site matches the description on the box. If you ordered a 300 watt lamp and received a 150 watt model, you must have received the wrong model. See my attached photos of the box and the lamp. Second, you CAN remove the lamp from the box without destroying the box. You have to very gently slide the reflector sideways out of the box, and then gently pull it out. It took about 30 seconds of fiddling and some patience, but my box is 100% intact without a single tear. Third, instructions are NOT required to assemble this lamp--it is extremely simple and easy. If you are unable to figure out how to assemble the lamp or the clamp, get some assistance--it is not difficult. See my attached photo of the clamp. Just put the knurled ball in between the two pieces of metal from the clamp, and tighten the wing nut. It takes about 10 seconds. Fourth, this lamp DOES NOT have a switch. It just plugs in and turns on. If you need a switch, I recommend looking at the GE Model # 25511 "Grounded Power Switch White", available for order from the Home Depot web site for less than ten dollars. I use the GE switch with this lamp and it works great. This lamp is inexpensive and pretty basic but it gets the job done. The aluminum reflector is so thin and soft that slight pressure will bend it or dent it, so you have to handle it gently. It will work fine if mounted in a stationary position, but I would not use it for anything mobile or where it needs to be constantly mounted and removed, as it will not take much abuse The bulb base is a thick two piece ceramic base. While it seems fairly good quality, because it is two pieces, it came unscrewed when I attempted to remove a light bulb. So just be gentle with it and don't screw in the bulb too tight. The 18 ga cord is relatively thick for a lamp, and mine had a TWO prong plug (not grounded). Another reviewer said that his had a 3 prong plug--perhaps there are multiple versions. I'm using mine for photo studio lighting, so I'm using a 65W CFL bulb in the light. One minor issue is that the reflector gets in the way of the wide CFL bulb base, so the bulb pushes against the reflector when screwed all the way in. It fits, but it's a tight fit. The lamp was designed for Type A bulbs, not CFL bulbs, so this is not the lamp's fault, but something to know if you plan on using a CFL. Because I'm only using the 65W CFL, I can't attest to how this would hold up against the heat of a 300W bulb. The clamp is functional and seems to work well. My clamp looks completely different from the photo on the web site, and is much better than the style shown on the web site. The clamp on mine is definitely not ergonomic, as the ends of the spring stick straight out and dig into your hand as you squeeze the clamp and mount the light. I wrapped gaffers tape around the springs to keep them from stabbing into my hands--which worked great. However, the clamp on mine has a very strong spring and holds the lamp surprisingly well. I have it clamped to a piece of 3/4" plywood, and it holds great. Just in case, I put a screw in the wood to stop the clamp from falling off, just in case it does ever slip. Overall, this light is great--it's very inexpensive and does the job just fine.
