A:  This film is completely transparent. It has no mirror or shading effect. The instructions say you can layer multiple films in the right sequence to get these effects. If you very carefully follow the step-by-step instructions it goes up easily and perfectly the first time.

A:  No. It is clear and the only thing is does is in case the glass is broken it keeps it together. If you want it darker you have to use the privacy film.

A:  Our GILA Safety film was discontinued this past year since we have safety and security films available from numerous Vista and LLumar film dealerships, our sister companies for professional films, located around the country.

A:  I am not sure if this product will work on a textured glass surface. Why not just get the correct glass to install in a shower environment?

A:  Not on the inside. Gila films, such as decorative films, can be installed on glass shower doors, but we recommend that they be installed on the exterior surfaces. The regular periodic use of the shower will not be a problem for the film's adhesive if film is installed on outside of shower door. It would even help to put a good car wax on the SR surface and buff it, just like applying it to a car. This will help to repel hard water spots that might develop from the shower spray and make cleaning easier.

A:  Yes, this product can be used for shower doors.

A:  Gila films are not designed to act as safety films. If the glass were to become broken, the film will help to hold glass fragments in place that would otherwise scatter, but no safety claims can be made because of the absence of supporting testing documentation referencing safety standards. There is no GILA film that passes the necessary tests to upgrade “regular” (non-tempered) glass to safety glass. No Gila products meet ANSI or CPSC standards. That is why we do not put any such claims on these film boxes, but rather they simply hold broken glass together.

A:  I don't know if the product meets any official standards. It should prevent splattering of glass if window is shattered.

A:  Not sure of all the details of this ANSI requirement. I do know, however, that if someone or something were to hit the glass once this film is applied the glass will not "explode" but will crack and stay together as if it were being held by tape. It will not make the glass break like a tempered piece of glass that would break into small pieces. But it will slow down an intruder if they are trying to break the glass to gain entry.

A:  That is the exact reason I purchased this and my inspector accepted it.

A:  In my opinion Tempered glass will be much stronger and more difficult to break. I purchased this film in case the thin glass in my 1912 French doors broke, that the pieces would stay together a little better. And hopefully stay out of some childs face.

A:  I'm not sure if it gives the same strength to regular glass as tempered glass. But, it does provide a level of security that prevents regular glass from being kicked in or smashed by being hit. It will also keep the glass from exploding if it does get hit. The glass will remain stuck to the laminate similar to being taped in case of a tornado.

A:  It was requested by my MA building inspector for bathroom windows. I showed this product to the inspector and they accepted it. You might want to ask first or install it and tell them you added this on for extra protection. The other similar 3M products I found had to be installed by the company. It is very easy to install, think like a cell phone screen protector. I cut this large sheet made for a screen doors down to fit 3 window sashes. It basically makes the glass shatterproof as the film holds everything together, which is basically what tempered glass does.
