Q:How will this unclog my sewer line? How will it break through the clog? By manual force?

Answer This Question

A:  Had to push but cleared the drain

by|May 4, 2023

    A:  yes

    by|May 4, 2023

A:  Yes. I fed the rod down my clean out till it reached the clog between my house and septic tank and then, wearing leather gloves, gripped the metal rod and banged away in a hammering motion until it broke through the clog.

A:  Yes by manual force, once you hit the obstruction just back out a little and jam it in again until you can pass it all the way threw. I put mine in a 4" sewer pipe and it did the job, was pleasantly surprized.

A:  yes just chase it with water

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  I don't see why not. It's just a 40 ft metal rod that is bendy, but sturdy enough to push through clogs. It'll fit easily into a downspout gutter.

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  Realistically, a high speed down flush with water hose would probably work as well or better while, unless the clog were very dense (which they usually are not) the sewer rod end might just go through the leaves or whatever. It's one of those things worth giving a try just to see. And be cautious about leaning a ladder against the gutter to get to the downspout.

Q:how thick exactly is the metal?

                  Answer This Question

A:  It is a band type material, about 1/2" wide. About like metal strapping material, very stiff but able to go around bends in 4" pipe pretty easily, not so much in smaller pipe.

                  by|May 4, 2023

A:  Our apologies for the missed question. For future reference, the rod is 1/16-in thick and 1/2-in wide. Home Depot carries our Encased Sink Cleaner that's 1/32-in thick by 1/4-in wide. BrassCraft Model # BC90220-4 Internet # 100578685 Store SKU # 167401.

                    by|May 4, 2023

A:  Pretty thick, it wont bend. I jammed it into a 4" sewer pipe and it did the job I couldnt do with my expensive power drill router.

Q:Will this tool allow me to unclog sewer lilne from roof vent pipe?

                      Answer This Question

A:  Its 40 ft long. I don't know about the 90 degree turn, probably cannot make a 90 degree turn. The metal is pretty think and sturdy. It bends, but not a sharp 90.... maybe if the pipe is curved. Going down a pipe to a T, I'd think it would hit the T and stop there. You could bang away and hope it takes the turn, but not much chance of that working. The hard plastic auger is attached well to the metal with thick pins, didn't seem to me any chance of it coming off.

                      by|May 4, 2023

A:  As long as the total length to the clog is less than 15 feet, Yes.

                        by|May 4, 2023

A:  Give it a shot, it has worked excellent for my clogged pipes, including the big 4'' inch ones.

                        by|Nov 22, 2017

                        A:  YES

                        by|Mar 23, 2017

A:  It could if the rod turns toward the clog when it contacts the vent pipe's intersection with the sewer line from the household drain. It's almost a give or Go thing with vent pipes, but no harm in trying.

Hi WorldSpy - Sewer rods are for most sewer outlets, stack vents, and storm cutters. An encased sewer rod is best used on mostly straight runs without tight bends to maneuver around. Because this rod is rigid, they do not make corners very well. Depending on where your clog is located, a wire drain auger might be a better tool for your application as it has a flexible wire cable designed to move around tight bends. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755.

Good evening Home Depot, The Sewer Rod were intended to assist with an bathtub slow drain but, I also picked up an drain solution that seem to have done the job so I returned the Brasscraft Sewer Rod for an refund. I'll wait for afew months to see if that's going to fix the slow drain for good but, if I ever need to use a sewer rod in the future I'll proablly use one like the brasscraft sewer rod for the job. Thanks Home Depot.

Hi lloydd - We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with our Encased Sewer Rod. A tape rod is the most basic of sewer rods. It is a coil of semi rigid flat steel with a spearhead cutter at the end. It is used by pushing its length through the blocked sewer line, pushing and breaking up the stoppage. Because they are semi-rigid they do not make corners very well. If you have to make tight turns to get to the blockage, we would recommend using one of our cable augers. They cables are more flexible and easier to work round bends to get to the blockage. For any other questions please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755.

It did run the tape up the corrugated pipe. I expected it to have a marker at each foot so that I could determine where the obstruction was. The end of tape was not anchored into the real. So it came out, and I had to restore the tape into the reel. Not entirely difficult, but another step.
