This is an expensive push mower, so buying it requires good reason. So, I thought I would share my story: Was sick of my gas lawn and garden equipment. I was spending more time trying to diagnose and fix problems and clean carburetors than actually get work done. I live on over a half acre with a lawn that is more weeks than grass, sloping, and with 6 large maples 1 large ash and several ornamental/fruit trees (meaning lots of obstacles). I was really nervous about going from a 18 hp craftsmanlawn tractor with a 42" inch deck to a 21" push mower. I knew I would be adding a lot of time to my mowing by making the switch. I also know that push mowing in the heat and humidity of an Indiana summer is not easy, so I wanted some help (self-propelled) . I was excited about not having to change oil or keep gas in the garage. Most importantly as I get older and have less time and energy to exercise I thought going back to a walking mower would be better for me, especially one where I was not constantly walking into and breathing a cloud of small-engine exhaust. I decided to try the ego due to the large battery available and good reviews. First season with the ego power self propelled: -excellent engineering - so much forethought went into the design. It is one of the best designed products I have ever come across. Mower handle bar position can be changed to suit users of different heights. - grass cutting is sufficiently powered, but I often don't feel I am getting a even cut...not a problem for me, but might bug some. - mulching is top notch, no more raking or bagging leaves for me. Can handle pretty less than quarter inch branches well but these seem to take a toll on the blade over time. I never have used the bagger becaise the mulching works so well - battery - The battery life is variable and depends on many factors ( grass length, mulching, how wet the grass is, deck height, how much propulsion assistance you use). I bought the mower that comes with the 7.5 amp battery and fast charger from a local big box store. It is very heavy. I also purchased the string trimmer that came with a 2.5 amp battery (from Amazon) which I highly recommend. I start with the 2.5 amp battery in the mower, deplete it, put the 2 amp battery on the charger while I finishmowing with 7 amp battery. Then by the time I am done mowing the 2 amp battery is fully charged for trimming. -self propulsion - this is my first self-propelled mower. so when I was buying this mower I asked my co-workers if they had any experience with self-propelled mowers. Several had them in the past and hated them because they never seemed to have a speed that matched their desired pace. I found that this is not a problem with the ego power mower. It is not gear based, thus allows for fine tuning of the pace. I mostly use it towards the end of my mowing as I begin to get tired. It makes finishing the job much easier when the weather is unfriendly. -storage - folds up so saves space in the garage. -ease of use - again fantastic design makes it easy to operate. However the 7 amp battery adds significant weight. - no gas or oil to deal with. No exhaust to breath in. - quiet! - can mow without hearing protection, can speak on the phone or listen to music while mowing You will have to unlearn some habits from your gas mower. For example is okay to stop the engine if something is in the way of the mower. It starts effortlessly so there's no reason to awkwardly attempt to bend around the mower while trying to keep the.mower running to try and pull a branch away from the front of the mower because you are used to being afraid of having trouble getting it to start again if you let go of the handle. It is really great to have and I could never go back to gas mowers or string trimmers. If problems arise I will definitely update my review.
