Q:Will this grind down spot welds? I need to reach a tight area

    Answer This Question

A:  The Drexel with cutting wheel will cut welds. A better choice would be a strai g ht cutting bit like a tungsten b it

    by|Jan 1, 2022

A:  Should work for that, yes, but keep in mind the diameter is 1.25", so that limits how well you can reach tight areas. I had a similar need and ended up using a diamond-coated cone-shaped metal grinding bit in my dremel (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dremel-3-32-in-Rotary-Accessory-Diamond-Wheel-Taper-Point-for-Wood-Ceramic-Glass-Hardened-Steel-Semi-Precious-Stones-7144/202263212) because the diameter of these was too large to get into the spot I needed.

A:  Yes, it will grind down the metal, assuming it's not hardened steel.

A:  Yes, I don't see why not. I've used them on a lot of thick steel.

A:  I'm sure it would. I have cut through steel with these wheels with ease.

                by|Sep 11, 2020

A:  i have cut through steel up to about 1/4" thick, you have to go slow and be careful not to twist the tool or the cutter will break. It will get the steel HOT.

                EZ456 Metal Cutting Wheel
Just some updated info: 1/ The image used by Home Depot is not representative of the product. EZ-456 uses the EZ lock Mandrel not the single hole mandrel 2/ Many older complaints say the centre reinforced metal collar would give way. Current inventory shows a much stronger coupling design. See pic attached.

                  AMAZINGLY VERSATILE TOOL
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Most people would buy a cutting wheel with just one purpose in mind: cutting a piece of metal, but I have found that these cutting wheels can do so much more than just cut off the end of a piece of metal. I have used the cutting wheel to notch things and even to create effects on projects. I built a drop down table for a friend's apartment and used the cutting wheel throughout the project, not just cutting the tile & piano hinge, but also to create effects in the tiles on the edging to give it a little more detail and enhance the appearance. I always seem to find a new use for the cutting wheels when I least expect it and when I'm involved in fabricating something and reach a point of indecision. I LOVE DREMEL!

                    Great, IF they work.
I purchased my dremel a few years back. I love the variable speed dial. I use it mainly to cut small projects of metal with the ez lock discs, but in the 6 or so 12 packs I have purchased, probably 1/4 to 1/3 break the center collar, many instantly. I have probably paid for 2+ multipacks just to throw away because they break. I recently bought a new pack, which I was forced to open up, because my previous pack broke 4 of the remaining few discs almost instantly, and.noticed the center collar is different. Great, but I still have spent a good chunk of change on the ones I had n to throw away. Dont get me wrong, I love my Dremel, but it sucks that I tossed so many.

                      Works great! When it works...
As part of my job, I frequently have to cut metal door frames. I’ve always used a Dremel to do so, frequently with the EZ-Lock cutoff wheels. I don’t know what happened, but it certainly seems like the manufacturing quality has taken a HUGE step backwards. These wheels do a fantastic job of cutting the metal, but, lately, I have had to deal with the center ring popping off of the wheels. Never used to happen. Now, it’s about a 50/50 shot (at best) of actually using all of the wheel before the collar falls off. Happened to 8 of the wheels in the 12-pack that I bought, expecting that it would get me through this job. I now have to stop, mid-project, and run out to get more cutoff wheels. Going with the standard style this time. I’m sick of wasting my money.

We are very sorry the centers are not performing to expectations. We agree that would be very frustrating. We will contact you directly to get some additional information and see if we can provide some assistance.
center metal ez lock ring keeps falling off
Debated going with standard or the EZ lock style. Spent the extra money and went with the EZ lock. I was cutting some light metal sheet that was 22ga. Got less than 5in into the cut and the metal ring popped out and made the cutting wheel useless. Should not spent the extra money on the ez lock. had to switch back to the regular cutoff wheel. Disappointing.
