Most complaints appear to be related to installation and a lack of awareness that there are 3 pieces to the drain assembly : flange/body/tailpiece . Here is how to do it : Remove stopper. Unscrew tailpiece from body. Apply a bead of plumbers putty to underside of flange. Unscrew flange from drain body (carefully, to avoid removing putty). With a finger, slightly increase the gap between putty & flange threads. Rotate the gasket, washer & nut towards the bottom of drain body. Wrap 3 turns of Teflon tape around the upper threads of the drain body Hold flange with putty over the sink drain hole. Push drain body up through the hole as far as you can. Thread drain body onto flange (being careful with the putty underneath). Rotate drain body so stopper rod hole faces the back of sink. Push flange evenly down into sink drain hole. Rotate nut to raise gasket & washer. Tighten until flat upper surface of gasket is in contact with sink (be careful not to overtighten). Wipe off excess putty around flange. Apply pipe sealant to tailpiece threads. Hand-tighten tailpiece into drain body and wipe off excess sealant. If tailpiece is connected to 1-1/2 inch PVC fitting, be sure to use a reducing washer on the tailpiece.
