SUMMARY: A REASONABLY PRICED CONTROL WIRE WITH THE FEATURE YOU WANT FOR A SPRINKLER SHSTEM INSTALLATION/REPAIR. BACKGROUND: We have wanted to start working on an underground sprinkler system for our well. The chance to evaluate the Cerrowire 18/7 sprinkler wire was a welcome opportunity. FIT AND FINISH: This wire looks like you would expect for a low-voltage control wire. FEATURES: From the Home Depot page, with my comments as appropriate. • Cerro's sprinkler system wire is sunlight-resistant and suitable for direct burial applications. o Sunlight resistance and direct burial were two of the requirements I wanted for my installation. • Soft bare-copper conductors are twisted without filler to a LHL, then PVC insulated and jacketed with a parallel ripcord, this wire is ready to perform. o LHL is wiring terminology for “Left Hand Lay” the direction the wires are wound in. For the Cerrowire it is not a hard LHL, so the twist is not so evident when stripping the insulation. o The PVC outer jacket is thick enough to protect the wires and is waterproof for direct burial. I assume UV inhibitors have been added to make it sunlight resistant. • For Low-Voltage, outdoor, sprinkler-wire applications up to 30-Volts. o My system runs on 24-volts so this is perfect for my. • UL and CUL listed Note shipping restrictions apply for the following states: AK, GU, HI, PR, and VI. INSTALLATION: I installed my Wi-Fi B-Hyve controller inside my garage and ran the wiring out the wall, then down and around the siding and back up to my manifold. The jacketed cable was easy to push through the hole I drilled through the wall. The PVC jacket was easy to strip, about the same as 14-2 ROMEX. Wire strippers worked easily on the inner insulation. I used wiring staples to secure the wire along the wiring path and up to the manifold. WAGO connectors were used to connect the control wire to the valve wiring. Everything fired up perfectly the first time. SUMMARY: Met my immediate need and gives room to expand in the future. PROS: Tough, easy to work.

We’re irrigating about 2 acres of turf (rotors) plus lots of landscape (pop-ups and risers). We’ve chosen this wire for an upcoming expansion, with footage to spare for the inevitable repairs that accompany DIY maintenance on our valves. This sprinkler wire is rated at 30V, suitable for our low-voltage system. With tough-enough coating for direct burial, it consists of 7 different color-coated strands of 18-gauge copper wire, complete with a handy silk-like ripcord (no filler otherwise). Note: in the website photo, the wire appears grey. The wire we received is black.

Overall this is nice wire. You do have to be careful when stripping the outer sheathing, it can be easy to cut through the insulation on the wires. Stripping the wire insulation is easy. The copper wires are 18 awg and they easy to form and don't break easily. The conductors are solid too. These wire is only rated for 30 volts so understand that this should only be used in specific low voltage applications, like for sprinkler systems.

So, pretty much wire is wire. To an extent. What I would think is the most important part of this wiring is the outer protective jacketing. Since it needs to be both UV resistant and rated for direct underground burial, it needs to be up to snuff. And it appears that it will be. The outer jacketing is thick, strong and flexible. I have no doubt it will perform well when the need arises to replace my current wiring.

This electrical sprinkler cable from Cerro Wire is perfect for wiring of low-voltage sprinkler wire and is suitable for direct burial with a tough outer jacket. At 18 gauge, you can generally run up to 200 feet without being concerned about your zone valve operation, maybe more depending on the brand of valves and your controller. And with 7 wires, you can control 6 valves, with one as a return. This cable is also well suited for other applications, such as wiring for thermostats, doorbells, exterior low-voltage lighting, and controlling remote locations such as electrically controlled locks. The copper wire itself is solid (not stranded), and there is a nylon pull string to aid in the stripping of the outer jacket. This is high quality wire and should last for decades under normal conditions.

This wire is awesome, it’s very strong, very high quality and very well made. There is never is an issue with voltage or consistency with this wire. It’s very well shielded and very easy to work with. The outter plastic covering is very strong but flexible and easy to work with. I highly recommend this wire for your next project you won’t go wrong with it.

As far as sprinkler wire goes this product is all you need if you need 7 wires but I like to have extra wires just in case one or more get damaged and I only needed 5 wires . It has a sunlight-resistant jacket that is rated for direct burial underground applications as long as its no more than 30 volts . The jacket comes with a built in ripcord that really comes in handy and makes it so much easier when you need to open the jacket .

I've used Cerro products over the years and have always appreciated the quality and functionality of their products. This Cerrowire 100 foot roll of 18/7 sprinkler ware is high quality and I'm confident it will serve my sprinkler system for years to come. The rubber jacket is durable and the individual sprinkler leads are color coded with quality sheathing. I definitely recommend the Cerrowire sprinkler wire as a durable wire for any sprinkler system.

The CERROWIRE 18/7 sprinkler wire is high quality. The outer covering is thick where it protects the wire strands very well. The wire strands are solid copper and is 18 gauge. The outer covering also has a string inside that helps to maintain the wire integrity. I used wire nuts to connect the wires. I used this wire for my entire sprinkler system.
