16 oz. Wide Mouth Glass Canning Jar (2 packs of 12)

This offer came a little late for me to actually use these for canning some food. But I am using some for other dry and non-canned storage and have some insight. I love the wide mouth design. The wide mouth makes it so much easier to pack or retrieve contents of the jar. Having the same size lids as my quart size jars is also great. The glass seems to be of excellent quality. The bands seem to be the same weight as all my other bands. hey should be durable. The lids seal well... even though I never canned anything, after washing in hot water and placing lids on the jars and tightening the bands, after cooling the lids were vacuum sealed and required a good pull to remove. The rubber area of the sealing rubber is a bit thinner than some of the other lids I have had, but it appears they will work fine. The one downside is that hidden n the carton bottom is the only place it states the country of origin. It is not the US.

We got two dozen of these Country Classics wide mouth pint jars to pressure can soup and they worked well in our first batch. Three of four jars sealed and we loosened the ring too soon on the fourth so we think that is why that one didn't seal. We also experimented with cake-in-a-jar but we overfilled and the jar overflowed during baking. The jar did fine with being baked. The jar thickness at the edge of the lip next to the threads measured 0.125 which is the same as the big name brand jars measure. The rings and lids have been interchangeable with the other brands we have. It has been more difficult to get canning jars in recent years so we are very glad to see the Country Classics brand coming available for easy ordering. We are in good stock now for the next fruit season.

I love these jars for canning and for making vinaigrette for salads, I love making homemade pickles and these jars are perfect for it, they’re easy to sanitize, the lid has a space for the date, the size of the jar is good too. They’re easy to clean I just put them right in the dishwasher, they’re very versatile for all your cooking needs, I have a sourdough starter in one right now

These are standard 16 oz straight sided wide mouth glass canning jars made in China. They are noticeably lighter and thinner than the Kerr jars of the same size, so I weighed them. Kerr weighs 9.5 oz and these jars weigh 8.6 oz. I also noticed that there is a circular ridge on the bottom of all of the jars which is so off-center that it extends slightly up the side, well above the bottom ridges. When I checked my Ball and Kerr jars, their circles are also off center, but they stay on the bottom of the jar within the ridges. I don't think this will cause me any trouble since I only use my jars for honey, but heat or pressure canners may want to take note of this.

Most people I supposed would use these jars for canning jams and jellies, or pickling. My wife loves to make soups and now that my kids are grown and out of the house, these jars provide an easy way to store and ship the soups to my kids. The jars are wide mouth which makes pouring the liquids easier. The jars seal well and seem to maintain air tightness which make shipping them more secure. No complaints.

Country Classics canning jars are perfect for your canning needs. They come with the lids and bands you need to finish the job, so it's less to worry about when you pick up a new set. Upon inspection, the lids' seals seem to be thinner than other competitors. However, they sealed just fine in practice. The bands feel standard weight and secured properly. UPDATE: Photo shows canning lid comparison of KERR-made in USA (top) and COUNTRY CLASSICS-made in CHINA (bottom). Rubber gasket on KERR is 6 mm wide and on the COUNTRY CLASSICS it is 4.5 mm wide. My conclusion is that the wider gasket on the KERR lids insures better surface coverage of the glass rim, thus guaranteeing a better seal and less food waste. COUNTRY CLASSICS manufactured in CHINA (not mentioned in the description). KERR, BALL and ANCHOR HOCKING jars and lids manufactured in the USA!
