Q:For making boxes using dovetails for connecting the corners. How well would this work for making the straight and precise cuts for a project such as this one?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi! The OSL003VP this is a three pack of blades. Two of them are cured and the other one is straight. You would need a steady hand when cutting or something to guide the tool straight. For further assistance, contact us at 1-877-BOSCH99 (1-877-267-2499) from Mon-Fri 7A-7P CST.

This Bosch Multi Tool blade set is top quality but comes at a price. Be aware that this set does not fit dewalt oscillating multi tool because the blades do not have a rear cut-out. So I recruited my coworker’s Makita to perform our test and evaluation. The Bosch set is made in Switzerland and comes with a wood blade, an extra clean cut wood blade, and a carbide blade. I tested the wood blades in prefinished veneer (typical for cabinets) and both blades gave exceptional cut quality with no chip out. I also tested the carbide blade in nail driven wood and it also had very little trouble cutting through nails (see photo) and gave good cut quality. All the blades cut quickly with no effort. We also timed cuts through 1 x 1 poplar and compared the cut time against low priced Chinese blades as a control. The Bosch blades were about 25 % faster in most cuts, but all blades cut through the material in less than 10 seconds. We also tested the Bosch carbide blade on ¾” L copper pipe and surprisingly it performed no better than our low priced Chinese metal blades. Both blades took over a minute to make its way through this thick wall copper. While the Bosch blades performance was a cut above, the question is are these blades worth the premium price? At $40 for the set of 3, it was 8 bucks more than the 20 piece set we got from amazon. We suspect that the Bosch set will last much longer than the Chinese set, but we question if will outlast all 20 pieces. These would be nice to keep in the tool box for critical cuts but we will stick with the cheaper Chinese blades for day to day work. About my rating: 5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B) 3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C). 2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D) 1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

A few years back I purchased a FEIN multi tool and ever since wondered how I got along without it. When it came time to purchase new blades I discovered that my tools blades were only on line and expensive. When looking around one day in my local Home Depot I found that BOSCH also has a full line of blades for multi tools and they fit my tool. These new blades with "curved tec" work really well, look at the attached photo. The only blade I use now are BOSCH.

This Bosch OSL003VP package contains 3 multitool blades, the OSL114 1.25" wide high carbon steel wood cutting blade, the OSL114JF 1.25" bi-metal extra-clean wood cutting blade, and the OSL114C 1.25" extreme carbide metal blade. I needed the Bosch OIS001OIS universal adapter to fit these blades to my Dremel MM30 multitool. I normally use carbide blades in case I run into a nail when cutting. When I tested the Bosch wood blades I was pleased to find that they cut 3 times faster than the carbide blade, and I really liked the curved-tec feature where the center of the blade starts the cut so the edges don't catch and throw the tool off my line. When cutting soft pine I didn't notice any difference in the cleanliness of the cut with the extra-clean blade, but the bi-metal blade doesn't cost much more then the high carbon OSL114 and should last longer, so the OSL114JF will be my preferred wood-cutting blade in the future. The depth markings in 1/16" are easily readable to enable precision cuts. The carbide blade worked fine, cutting through a nail in a few seconds. The 30x life claim is compared to a bi-metal blade.

Three very sharp good quality blades! You get two for wood and one metal (‘and more”) blades. One of the wood blades has finer teeth than the other, for making a cleaner cut. Part OSL114JF. The courser toothed blade is item OSL114 HCS. The metal cutting blade is item OSL114C. The wood cutting blades at 1-¾” long (despite the packaging stating 1-¼”) and the metal blade is 1-¼”. All three blades are curved, so that when the blade is oscillating, it is sawing at a constant distance along the length of each stroke. All three also have depth measurements on the blade (in inches) so you can see the cutting depth you are making. The base of each one is color coded, so on can grab (say) the metal one without having to read the blades. The attachments fit Starlock machines, not the same as my Dremel oscillating tool, so they did not attach. The good news is that Home Depot sells an adaptor, (Bosch item IOS001) that enables the Starlock attachments to connect to a Dremel, and it costs under a dollar! I picked one up and it does the job well. Note that the adaptor is such that the blade will not be at 0° but off at about 5°, but this does not detract from their functionality at all. My first job was to cut some plywood in a somewhat inaccessible location and the blade performed admirably. Made in Switzerland

I used these blades with RYOBI oscillating saw, and was really disappointed. When I used a blue blade (for metal) to cut off a bolt with a thread diameter about 1/8", it took about a minute, way too long. And, the most upsetting thing, the blade got damaged!!! (See the enclosed picture) When I used another blade for wood, in order to make in a softwood a cut with depth about 3/4", the depth I was able to reach was about 1/4". As a result, my rating for these blades is 2 stars out of 5. Nevertheless, I recommend these blades, as others even worse.

            Adapted
I was so annoyed at myself when I went to start cutting outlet holes in new drywall and realized these didn't fit my Dremel oscillating tool. It's 100% on me in assuming they'd fit, I've never had issues buying other brands of blade in the past I just figure this was no different. With only dull blades on hand it was off to Home Depot to get blades that would fit. On the shelf next to the blades I noticed Bosch sells an adapter for less than $1. Problem solved. Good thing I found that adapter because these blades are superior to the previous brand I was using. They've stayed sharp, particularly after cutting many outlet holes, which typically dull blades fairly quick. I'm also a sucker for a decent carrying case so that I can toss these into a tool box/bag quickly and keep everything organized, nice extra. Now if only if it came with the adapter or a universal fit we'd be perfect.

            Terrific Blades, Terrific price
This set of Oscillating Tool blades exudes quality from the moment you handle the case. It's solid, lightweight, and locks securely. The best part is the “finger holes” molded into the form-fitting tray which makes it a breeze to remove the thin blades (see photo); a small touch that shows the care Bosch put into this kit. The five blades (four with teeth, one with a knife-like edge) are all made in Switzerland, and are designed to fit nearly all brands of multi-tool. They fit my Feinmaster like a glove. The blades seem somewhat thinner than similar blades, meaning they should cut with less effort and leave a thinner kerf. The included Carbide blade is excellent, producing a fine cut quickly, even in hardwood (oak). The heftier teeth of the “Wood” blade cut nearly twice as fast, albeit with a rougher cut. The narrow “Wood” and “All Purpose” blades feature slightly curved edges where the teeth are ground, meaning they won't “catch” in the wood when the blade makes first contact. Again, a nice touch showing the quality design and construction of these blades. At about $10/blade this kit is pretty economical (for multi-tool blades); there are cheaper sets but the quality of these Bosch blades is likely to far outlast them.

            Wonderful Selection of Blades
I got this set to replace the blades that came with my Ridgid multi-tool. These fit perfectly and are super sharp. It comes with a wide set of blades for all types of material. I have used them for a couple weeks while I put down new laminate in our house. The tools make cutting out floor vents and angles much easier. They haven't broken and don't bend at all. For the price, this is a great set of blades.

            High quality set
One of the most handy power tools in a carpenters arsenal is the oscillating multi tool. Once you get one though, you need blades for various projects. Bosch blades are of the highest quality you can get. They have the universal plus design that fits most multi tool brands, and make a very solid connection for maximum cutting power. Included are blades for cutting metal, wood, and tile. Also, they come in a sturdy plastic case so you wont damage them by just throwing them in your tool box. I have used many brands of blades, and I can say Bosch blades are the longest lasting and fastest cutting you can get.

            Decent oscillating blades
I've often have great experience with Bosch tools and this oscillating blade set did not disappoint. I'll start with the negatives: -The blade mount is the continuous ring versus the "C" design. This means you have to take the oscillator securing hardware all the way off compared the the "C" open design blades that allow you to slip the blade onto the tool. Also means these blades won't work with some tool-less (spring tension type) oscillators. -The wood/metal cutting blades don't last long when used for cutting through metal such as finish nails. I expected this since most oscillating blades just don't really cut metal all that well. Now the positives: -This is a great assortment of blades, something for just about any task for an oscillator and it includes a nice storage pouch. Nothing fancy but a nice touch to help keep the blades organized. -Great thought on the mounting plate (even with the one negative mentioned above), that is is cupped which steps the blade down past most oscillating tool blade mounting hardware. This give zero clearance for cutting flat horizontal such as a door jamb at floor level. -The Starlock gives adequate mounting directions. -Blades have a laser etching on them describing the blade info. - it stays on the blade better than the blades that are painted. Overall performance of the Bosch oscillating blades is very good on wood. The blades are easy to control and cuts fairly aggressive - but that is more tool related than it is the blade.
