Q:I used Behr Concrete paint 3 years ago and I would like to use the Behr Solid Concrete stain. I have a large patio and I am trying to prevent stripping it to add the solid stain. Can I clean with degreaser and then prime to add solid stain?
    by|Mar 17, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Trichard981, thank you for your question. The Solid Concrete Stain can be used over a previously painted surface in good condition. You do not need to use a primer, but the surface should be sound, clean, and dry before applying. Also, if the previous finish is glossy, scuff sand the surface to promote adhesion. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Q:Last fall I etched, primed, & applied two coats of this stain to my concrete patio. Over winter, small black worms came onto my patio and died. Their bodies absorbed into the stained concrete and cannot be fully removed. Recoat + sealer? Plz advise.

Q:Do previously stained surfaces need to primed? I will be staining over a previously stained patio in good condition other than some hairline cracks.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi hankstar, thanks for your question. You do not need to prime your previously stained patio surface, provided there is no peeling/bubbling or bare concrete showing. Just fill any hairline cracks and ensure the surface is clean before applying our Solid Color Concrete Stain. Good luck with your project! -Christina

Does not stick on concrete well
I ordered this product and did everything they recommended, from buying a cleaner for the floor, buying a product to etch the floor, priming the floor, and then staining the floor and it lasted about 2 days before starting to peel. What the heck?! I spent a lot of money on all of these products for it not to work.

          Response from BehrFeb 1, 2024
Hello, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear about the peeling you're experiencing. That is not the performance we expect of our products. Our Solid Color Concrete Stain should provide a durable and protective finish. To fix the peeling, I recommend removing any loose coating and etching the bare concrete if it feels smoother than 150 grit sandpaper. Make sure the floor is clean and dry before spot priming the area. Then, touch up the area and apply a thin coat if needed for uniformity. We value your customer satisfaction, and this is not the experience we want for our customers. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr
The colors are too bright, inaccurately displayed
This is my second review. On further consideration, I find the Deep Terra Cotta MUCH brighter than it shows online & in the catalog. It is too bright red, not earth tone. Whoever is responsible for the colors in this line needs to be fired. He or she is wasting people's money and time. The colors are VERY inaccurately represented & , in my experience, do not reflect good visual taste or a discerning eye. If I am still in this house next spring, I may change the color to gray. More $$$. Bad.

              Goes on very nicely
Excellent stain 2 coats did the job. Very happy with the quality of the stain. Drys in 2 hours then ready for the second coat. Highly recommend to first use a power washer on the concrete first. Didn’t have to use a primer.

Hi Joseph. thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the Solid-Color Stain was too thin and started to peel the next day. This is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. The stain should be the consistency of a blended smoothie. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our customer care team is happy to help you! -Ronald Behr

                    Stain concrete, don't paint it.
I am extremely pleased with results. Easy to apply after doing the proper steps; etch and clean, plus the Behr primer. Appears it will hold up for a long time and stain is the way to go for concrete vs. paint.
