Q:In a closet that has cheap fake paneling. I want to paint it in a semi gloss white to reflect a bit of light, better visibility. Do I really need to sand, prime, or any other prep, besides washing the walls. Looking for cheap, easy, but decent. Thanks

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Janet, thank you for your question. We do recommend prepping the surface prior to painting for the best results. The surface should be sound, clean, dry, and scuff sanded to promote adhesion if the finish is glossy. Also, use the Kitchen, Bath and Trim Primer and Sealer to prime before painting. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Q:What to do If I mixed my color at the store but I didn’t like it and I wanted it to be a little bit more darker?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Amna, thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that your color didn't turn out as expected, and I can understand why you'd like to have that made a bit darker. I recommend reaching out to your local Home Depot for more information on whether they can tint the paint further to make that a bit darker. That should be fine so long as you do not go above 6oz. of color in total per gallon for our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel in the White Base. Have a great day! -Lina

Q:What do I do for prep on cabinets

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Rick, thanks for the question. If the cabinets are already painted, I'd recommend scuff-sanding the surface with 150-grit sandpaper, ensuring they are clean, priming them with our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer, and then applying the Cabinet, Door, and Trim Paint. If you have additional questions about painting your cabinets, please feel free to reach out to us directly; our customer care team is happy to help. -Ronald

          Worst paint ever
We painted our kitchen cabinets ourselves with this paint and it is some of the worst paint I have ever used. We followed the instructions to a tee: took the cabinets off sanded, primed, and put 2 coats of paint with a sprayer on our cabinets, waiting the prescribed amount of time between coats. Only a few months after use, we noticed the horrible wear on the edges of the cabinets where we don't even touch, because we have knobs and pulls. The paint also rubs off when you wipe gently.

Hi Jenna, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with our Cabinet, Door & Trim Enamel. That is not the performance we expect of the paint, and I can understand your disappointment. To fix the finish, I recommend removing any loose coating before making sure the cabinets are clean and dry. Then, prime the bare areas to ensure the proper adhesion before touching up the spots. If needed, recoat the surface for uniformity. I know this was unexpected. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we want you to be happy with your project. Please feel free to reach out to us directly so we can learn more about your project and assist. We look forward to hearing from you! -Lina Behr

            Avoid This Product
I have never written a review for any product, but I’m compelled to do so now. Not sure what Behr is going for here, but it is so frustrating. This paint has zero working time. OK, to be fair, you have about 30 seconds before it sets up and is no longer workable. You have to paint so fast to avoid brush marks and that is not always possible….especially with complex trim. I finished painting the base trim on a stairwell and it frankly looks terrible. I know another coat will help, but painting shouldn’t be this annoying. I’m glad my family wasn’t home to hear my colorful use of the English language.

Hi Todd, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and I understand how frustrating this must have been. This should be workable and dry to recoat after about two hours. However, if the paint is drying too fast, it can be thinned with up to 4oz. of water per gallon to extend the working time. If this has left a texture on the surface, I recommend sanding, cleaning, and priming with the Kitchen, Bath and Trim Primer No. 75 and applying a minimum of two coats of Cabinet, Door and Trim Paint. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! - Randy Behr

              Huge Disappointment
I worked in Home Depot's paint depart for 2 years and Behr was always such a standup brand. I've used it on all of the projects for the last 27 years. I decided to paint my kitchen cabinets. I prepped them properly, used the kitchen, cabinet and trim primer by Behr, applying 2 coats & then I used the Cabinet /Trim paint to which I had to apply anywhere from 2-4 coats on! All cured and dried before any other coat was placed. Now the paint is peeling! Contacted Behr still waiting for a response

Hi Tina, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about your experience using the Cabinet, Door and Trim Semi-Gloss Paint. Typically, this should cover in two coats when applied to a primed surface. Additional coats can be applied after just two hours of drying. However, if that paint is allowed to cure for 7 days or more before another coat is applied, scuff sanding the glossy surface may be needed for proper adhesion. Nonetheless, your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback and for reaching out to us directly. Our customer care team is happy to help you! - Randy Behr

                  Beautiful results
I bought a townhouse with very low quality cabinetry. Didn’t really have the budget to replace everything but I wanted to paint it at least. I’m not much of a DIY-er, so I scrub the cabinets with a liquid D gloss her and went to work with this paint. The results were way better than I could have imagined. I used a brush on some spots and a roller on other spots and it actually came out even and you couldn’t tell which surface used. Why! It dried so evenly!

                    Paint that Pops
Super easy to work with, goes on smooth and dry time is perfect. I’ve used this paint for both cabinets and doors. Fiji was a perfect fit for our color combination.

                      disappointed
Picked up the paint, went to apply paint to trim work and paint was blue not black. Was told there are no refunds on this item. Makes me hesitant to purchase any more paint. Aside from this issue which may be a store problem, I absolutely love behr paint.

Very easy to use and cures well. It’s a different consistency (thicker) but has great coverage.
