I purchased this to paint the vinyl shutters and door. The color was fine, a berry red, I tried to match the original color as much as possible which had faded. I prep'd the surface using a mild bleach solution -so it was clean. The shutters couldnt be removed (well not easily so I taped around them. Here are the problems 1) this isnt one coat, I needed 4 and I used as similar a color I could get to the original 2) the biggest problem was when I removed the painters tape (24hrs afterwards) it took the paint with it. The paint peeled off with the painters tape like a banana! The sides of the shutters were a mess. Also I used the painters tape I also purchased from HD, so it wasnt a second, brand new tape from the store, Also painted the shutters when they were dry. I did everything right on my end. It was the paint. I tried a fine grain sandpaper to smooth out the sides of the shutters so I could repaint, using a different role of painters tape. It was difficult to sand, stripes just kept on peeling. The paint was like rubber, just peeling off the sides. When I got something sanded that i thought was passable, I used a thin coat of paint on the sides and a blade to help remove the painters tape. This is easily the worst experience I have ever had painting, and the most I have ever paint for paint which makes it even worse. Please, do not buy this paint. Just goes to show more expensive doesnt mean better! I used the same paint for the front door - that went more smoothly. That seemed fine. This paint cant tell the difference between painters tape and the surface. So if you need to tape, dont even think about using this. Perhaps the rubber consistency is good for heat/cold and can stretch and shrink with changing temps. But the problem is getting it on the desired surface in the 1st place. I also called the company (Behr) and let them know about the problem and to check if I did anything wrong - I did not. So please, consider yourself warned and buy any other paint except this. I am just hoping I wont have to redo the whole thing in a few weeks. I am not optimistic.
I have used Behr ultra premium exterior in the past with no problem, use that in preference. I never write reviews but felt morally compelled to write this one.
sticks to painters tape and peels off, not one coat you will need at least 3
