Behr's new Marquee paint is awesome. I was told by someone at Home Depot the one coat guarantee applies if you stick with the colors in their paint samples for this brand. If you do a custom color, like I did for one paint job, you may have to do two coats, although the 2nd coat was barely needed and went fast. And it was true for all my rooms I painted with this, I didn't need any primer first! So while the paint costs a bit more then Behr's Premium Plus paint, no primer was needed and only one coat - you can see why I'm in love when you only need to paint a room once!
To keep to one coat, here are my tips, based on three different paint jobs with this paint. And please keep in mind I am not an expert, but I have done a lot of painting, and this worked for me. I made sure to dip my roller a little more frequently to ensure one coat coverage. On the edges, I used my trusty angled Purdy brush, making sure I kept the paint brush wet, and then I used a small roller to go over it and got as close to the edge of the wall as possible. When I was done with a wall, I went back over any spots that needed touching up with a lightly loaded roller. I know, I know, you are not suppose to do that, but it worked for me and looked perfect when it dried.
An important tip for any paint: use the best rollers and paint brushes you can afford to purchase. At a minimum I would use a "better" roller, but I always use the "best". And you can't do a good job without a quality angled brush. My favorite is Purdy, which I have used and cleaned several times. If you want a good paint job, don't go cheap on your rollers and brushes!
I will use this paint for any future painting jobs.
